Building a heart-centered financial literacy business
I have spent over 21 years in the world of finance, working on trading floors in both the USA and Europe. And although I love the swiftness of the markets, the buzz of trading with clients, traveling, networking & building relationships, something always nagged at me. It was standing in my purpose of being of service to others, a VALUE instilled in me since childhood by my parents.
You see, I come from a family of big-hearted, kind, generous souls. And this was not only my parents, but the generations before them. They were not wealthy in the kind of monetary sense, but you see they were wealthy in soul and purpose.
They were bold spirits who overcame huge obstacles for the betterment of the next generation. My parents, two brilliant minds, gave so much of their time as lawyers to defend those who had no voice, which was such a beautiful thing to witness as a child.
However, it also brought my family HUGE financial challenges. I remember times where we had to move homes frequently because my parents couldn’t afford the rent anymore. Times where Christmas gifts were non-existent, turkeys couldn’t be purchased for Thanksgiving dinners, or I wasn’t able to participate in many extracurricular activates, like the Girl Scouts, because the uniforms were too expensive.
And you know what?
I still managed to have a fantastic childhood, as it was full of love, and the extended family would always chip in to help where possible. That’s the beauty of growing up in Puerto Rico, families stick together.
But my upbringing definitely molded my character and the importance of being financially stable. I thank my job in finance, for it has allowed me to be of service to others, support my family, allowed me to buy my parents a home early on in my career, as well as enjoy multiple adventures together. It has also permitted me to generously help charities and organizations in need. And it has allowed me to set up my own financial future.
But that nagging feeling persisted…
And I finally figured it out in 2020, when I realized how I could combine my love of teaching with my professional experience. So, I certified myself with the National Financial Educators Council, NFEC, as a Financial Educator (CFEI) and launched Wear Your Money Crown™, a heart-centered business to help CLOSE the gap in financial literacy.
Where does my business name come from?
It’s from my dream to empower others to overcome their money blocks, align their financial behaviors with personal goals, make smarter financial decisions, build wealth, and take actionable steps to achieve financial freedom and rule their finances!
And how better to represent my mission, but with the symbol of a CROWN? For a crown symbolizes royalty, triumph, and victory.
And that is my wish for all of you friends: that you get to Wear Your Money Crown & Rule Your Finances!
