Book Review: Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima
I wanted to share one of my favorite passions with you…
Yes, food & wine are a huge part of it, family, teaching financial literacy, writing, and as you’ve probably guessed from my social media, cats rank pretty high there too (#catladytribe).
Oh, and a nice long hot bath with magnesium flakes and some gorgeous smelling bath oils (fyi).
But one of the things that I absolutely ADORE doing, every single day, is READING A BOOK! Even if it’s just a few pages a day, I always have a book at the ready by my bedside.
And to be honest, they have to be “proper” books, meaning I have to hold them in my hands and be able to smell the pages.
Do you do that too?
I’d love to know (comment below)!
I also love writing notes in the empty spaces and use little post-its to highlight the pages that really stand out because I constantly refer back to them for inspiration.
After all, Words are so POWERFUL!
NOW, my taste in books varies widely. You see, I adore both a variety of children’s books, as well as adult books.
Children’s books? YES!!!
Seriously, there are so many children’s books with such wisdom & inspiration in them that they can literally CHANGE YOUR WORLD (shout out to my fellow SCBWI peeps)!
And I love adult books: historical fiction, non-fiction, crime, romance, inspirational, autobiographical, and personal finance books too, but I guess no surprise there given that I am a Financial Educator & Money Coach. : )
Anyway, this week I wanted to share what I was reading because I think it would resonate with many of you. It is called Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima, the founder of IT Cosmetics. In a nutshell, it is a powerful story of overcoming obstacles & building a brand with purpose, intention, and HUGE success (the $1BN+ kind).
There are also some extremely moving insights from the author’s personal life and the healing power of LOVE, FAITH, and FRIENDSHIP (caution: read this book with a box of tissues by your side).
And there is a specific part that I wanted to highlight for it packs a punch of inspiration, courage, and fabulosity. It is on page 124, when Jamie explains how she became the first female CEO of a brand in L’Oreal’s 100+ year history, after selling her company to them (public news -> so no spoilers here I promise) thanks to the backing of another powerful woman in L’Oreal (Carol Hamilton).
Jamie wrote:
“One of my greatest passions has always been championing other women. And that day, Carol sparked a new level of passion for this in me. Whenever possible I believe in bringing another woman as your plus-one. And if you don’t get a plus-one, as for one. Bring another woman to the table. Pull up an extra seat for her. Bring her to the room where it happens, whether it’s a boardroom, a PTA meeting, or a special event. So many women don’t get to have these experiences, and sometimes they have to see what’s possible in order to dream bigger. We each have this power in some way and we can freely give it.”
Isn’t that beautiful?
I think it’s the kind of beautiful that makes me tear up and shout, “Amen, sister!”
So, I wanted to share this with you my friends. As a reminder that we are all in this together and that #togetherwearestronger.
And that by lifting other women up, we TOO rise!
If you want to buy Jamie’s book, she offers a FREE STUDY GUIDE ACTION PLAN with your purchase. For more information, head over to her link BELIEVE IT.
I downloaded it and it rocks (just like her).
