Recently, I came across the work of Dr. Peter Gollwitzer, a psychology professor known for his research on implementation intentions. His findings show that setting a specific trigger for our actions can make us far more likely to follow through on our goals.
Think of it as creating a “when-then” plan: “When X happens, then I will do Y.”
👉🏽 For example, if you want to save more, you might set a trigger like,:
“When I receive my paycheck, then I will transfer 10% into my savings account.”
👉🏽 Or if you’re aiming to reduce spending, perhaps something like,:
“When I go out to lunch, then I’ll choose a more affordable option and invest the difference.”
